This time Varalakshmi Vratham 2023 (वरलक्ष्मी व्रतम) will be kept on August 25, 2023 on Friday. Every year, the Varalakshmi Vrat (वरलक्ष्मी व्रत) is observed on the Friday before the full moon date (पूर्णिमा तिथि) of the month of Shravan month (श्रावण मास). This Vratham remove poverty (दरिद्रता दूर) and to have unbroken good fortune (अखंड सौभाग्य). In Varalakshmi Vrat, married women worship Goddess Lakshmi Mata by doing fast throughout the day for the well-being of their husband, children and other family members. This fast is more prevalent in South India and is considered very effective but few most states people are celebrating this Varalakshmi festival such as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. By observing this vrat, you can get the blessings of Ashta Lakshmi (अष्ट लक्ष्मी). All the obstacles related to money going on in his life are pacified and the coming seven generations live a prosperous life.
The last Friday of the month of Sawan is considered very auspicious to pacify money related obstacles. Varalakshmi is the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi (देवी लक्ष्मी) from Ksheer Sagar (क्षीर सागर) and the devi swaroop is look like a milky ocean (दुधिया महासागर). Laxmi maa is adorned with 16 makeups (16 श्रृंगार). This form and name of Mata Lakshmi is believed to fulfill all the wishes of the devotees (भक्तों). This fast can only be performed by married men and women but bachelors can get blessings by worshiping Maa Varalakshmi and doing remedies. - Get ready after taking bath in the morning and wear white clothes after bowing to Maa Lakshmi (मां लक्ष्मी को नमन कर सफेद वस्त्र धारण करें).
- Make a Rangoli with Chalk at the place of worship. (चौक या रंगोली बनाएं)
- Purify all the places with Gangajal and take a vow of fasting (गंगाजल से सभी जगहों को शुद्ध करे और व्रत का संकल्प ले).
- Decorate the idol of Goddess Lakshmi with new clothes, jewellery and kumkum.
- Establish the idol of Goddess Lakshmi with Lord Ganesh ji by laying a red cloth on a post (लाल कपड़ा बिछाकर गणेश जी और देवी लक्ष्मी की मूर्ति की स्थापना करे).
- Keep the idol of Goddess Lakshmi in such a way that while worshiping, your face should be towards the east (देवी लक्ष्मी की मूर्ति ऐसे रखें कि पूजा करते समय आपका मुख पूर्व की ओर रहे).
- Spread some rice at the place of worship (थोड़े चावल फैलाएं).
- Take a Kalash and apply sandalwood around it (कलश के चारों तरफ चन्दन लगाएं).
- Add more than half the rice in the kalash (कलश में आधे से ज़्यादा चावल भर लें).
- Put betel leaves, dates and silver coin inside the Kalash (कलश के अंदर पान के पत्ते, खजूर और चांदी का सिक्का डालें).
- Put sandalwood, turmeric and kumkum on a coconut and place it on the Kalash (नारियल पर चंदन, हल्दी और कुमकुम लगाकर उसे कलश पर रखें).
- Plant mango leaves around the coconut in the Kalash (नारियल के आसपास आम के पत्ते लगाएं).
- Put a new red cloth in a plate and place that plate on rice (थाली में नया लाल कपड़ा रखें और उस थाली को चावल पर रखें).
- Light an oil lamp in front of Goddess Lakshmi (लक्ष्मी के समक्ष तेल का दीया जलाएं).
- Light a lamp of ghee in front of Ganpati (गणपति के समक्ष घी का दीया जलाएं).
- Welcome Varalakshmi with Kalash and Akshat (कलश और अक्षत से वरलक्ष्मी का स्वागत करे)
- Offer kumkum (कुमकुम), turmeric (हल्दी), sandalwood powder (चंदन पाउडर), sandalwood (चंदन), perfume (इत्र), flower garlands (फूल मा), incense (धूप), clothes, sweets etc to Goddess Varalakshmi.
- Chant Devi Lakshmi Mantra (लक्ष्मी मंत्र का जाप करें).
- Read the katha or story of Varalakshmi Vrat and sing Aarti (वरलक्ष्मी व्रत की कथा पढ़ें और आरती गाएं).
