Kumar Purnima in Odisha is also known as Sharad Purnima. Actually in Odisha, Laxmi Puja begins from Kumara Purnima which falls on the first full moon day of Kartika month. On this auspicious day girls are following the traditional rituals and expect their life partners same like Lord Kartikeya.

This year Odisha special festival Kumara Purnima date is being celebrated on 28 October 2023, Saturday. The full moon date is starting from 04:17 am on 28 October, which will continue till 01:53 am on the next day on 29 October. Kumara Purnima falls in the month of Ashwin, hence it is also called Kartika Purnima.

Kumar Purnima 2023 Puja Vidhi (Kumar Utsav Celebration)

Morning Puja “Anjula Teka” Ritual

• Firt Wake up in early in the morning before sun rise, take a bath and get dressed to perform puja
• Decorate the puja place at Home.
• Make palmful of prasad including ‘Khai’, ‘Janhi’ (striped gourd), cucumber, banana, coconut, betel nut to sun, which is called ‘Anjuli’.
• Palmful is usually done for seven times to the rising sun.
• Offer prayers to Goddess Laxmi Ji and Lord Vishnu.
• Use puja samagri of incense, lamp, kheer to offer.
• Draw a painting like Kumara Purnima Janha to allow goddess Lakshmi to come in your home.
• Girls can play game like “Puchi”.
• Boys can play games like Pasha (Chess) or other indoor games.
• Feed brahmans and provide offerings to pandits

Evening Puja “Chanda Chakata” Ritual

• Get ready with new dresses.
• Girls are waiting for the moon and raise the “Chanda chakata” to the moon.
• Make Prasad yo offer to the Moon (Prasad in the shape of the Moon).
• Use Khai, Ukhuda, jiggery, sugarcane, banana, Chhena, cottage cheese and talasaja to prepare the prasad for the evening puja.
• Ritual will be done until the full moon comes out.

As per the belief that if Girls will see the fresh moon and offer ‘Chanda Chakata’, they will get a young and attractive husband like Kumar or Kartikeya.
