Pitru Paksha is the most important and significant time in Hinduism. For the peace of Aancestors on this side, Shradh is performed by law with reverence and the ancestors get salvation. Pitru Paksha (पितृ पक्ष) is called other name of Shradh Paksha. In every year, Shradh Paksha is coming in Ashwin Krishna Paksha of Pratipada month and end till Amavasya Tithi. This year of 2023, Shradh 2023 (श्राद्ध) is starting from the date of Shukla purnina of Bhadrapada month on Friday, 29 September. It will end on Saturday, 14th October on the new moon day of Krishna Amavasya of Ashwin month.
It is mentioned in the Puranas that Yamraj also frees the souls of the ancestors these days, so that they can take tarpan from their relatives. During this Shradh Paksha, People are doing tarpan vidhi for remembering the ancestors for their peace. Remembering the ancestors and offering water; Donate to the poor and Brahmins. As per the rituals, Shradh date and tithi is considered according to the date of death. If We don’t know the perfect date of a deceased person, then in case, we can perform Shradh on Amavasya tithi.
