Significance of Apara Ekadashi | अपरा एकादशी का महत्व

Apara Ekadashi, also known as Achala Ekadashi or Bhadrakali Ekadashi, is an important Hindu religious observance. It falls on the eleventh day (Ekadashi) of the waxing phase of the moon (Shukla Paksha) in the Hindu month of Jyeshtha, which typically corresponds to May or June in the Gregorian calendar.

The word “Apara” means “limitless” or “boundless,” indicating the limitless blessings and spiritual benefits that one can attain through observing this Ekadashi vrat (fast). Apara Ekadashi is considered highly significant and is observed with devotion and piety by many Hindus, particularly in North India.

The significance of Apara Ekadashi lies in its association with Lord Vishnu, the preserver and sustainer of the universe in Hinduism. It is believed that observing a fast on this day and engaging in prayers and religious activities can lead to the forgiveness of sins and the attainment of spiritual merit.

Devotees observe a strict fast on Apara Ekadashi, abstaining from food and water for the entire day. Some people also observe a partial fast by consuming only fruits, milk, and specific foods allowed during fasting. The day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu, and devotees offer prayers, perform ritual baths, chant sacred hymns, and engage in devotional activities.

By observing Apara Ekadashi vrat, devotees seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu for spiritual purification, protection from evil influences, and the fulfillment of desires. It is believed that the merits earned through the observance of this vrat can help one overcome obstacles, attain prosperity, and progress on the path of self-realization.

Apara Ekadashi is also associated with the sacred river Ganga (Ganges). It is believed that taking a bath in the holy river on this day or performing charity and acts of selfless service can confer immense blessings and wash away impurities.

Overall, Apara Ekadashi holds great religious and spiritual significance in Hinduism. It is a day for devotees to express their devotion to Lord Vishnu, seek his divine grace, and strive for spiritual growth and purification.
